Our honored Guest, Chris Murphy, has postponed the JJB dinner due to an unexpected change of plans.  The event will be held on Friday May 18,2007.

New Business:

Election:  Chairman DaSilva urged everyone to talk to his or her friends in their wards and refer anyone interested in running for office to Kevin Morgan.  At least 20 candidates will be needed.  The School Board w ill also need candidates.  They will have 6 four-year terms and 1 two-year term to fill the vacancy created by the death of Joel Garafolla.  Joe is waiting for an answer on minority representation that may change toe number of candidates needed.  Each Ward will again be assigned a night at headquarters.  We will need everyone’s participation if we expect to win this election.  The phoning is a very important part of the process and you are urged to be sure your ward is involved.

Candidate Recruitment:  Each Ward would interview any candidates they had for open Ward positions and should make clear to the person the time commitment that the job may require.  Be sure that the candidate has paid all his taxes to the City, as this has been an issue in the past.

Complicated new laws are about to be enacted covering fund raising for elections.  This will make our job more difficult so we will need to work very hard to get the money we need for the various mailings that will be needed this election.

Mission statement:  Chairman DaSilva passed out a general guide line for what the Danbury Democrats stand for and what a candidate would be working towards in this election.  Please read this document over as revisions may be made.  A general job description for the school board and the common council was also given to each attending member; this should help to explain to new candidates what the job involves.

Tom Saadi will be in Germany for the next several weeks.  He can be reached by e-mail.

Paul Estefan made a motion to end the executive session.  Tony Tomaino seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Paul Estefan made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Eleanor Lewis seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.

Respectfully submitted

Catherine Conciatore
