the previous meeting.
And Tina Merante seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
Guest Speaker: Attorney Matthew Budzik informed
the members that he would like to run for Attorney
General in 2010. He is currently an Assistant
Attorney General and explained that you must be a
practicing attorney for ten years before you can run
for Attorney General. He is currently involved in a
case against three major credit agencies because
they are under valuing the credit rating that then
cost the cities much more money.
Public Participation: Al Robinson addressed the
members about what he considers to be disgraceful
behavior by Joe Lieberman. He feels he should be
censored for his role at the Republican Convention
and for allegedly prepping Sara Palin for her debate
with Joe Biden.
Lynn Taborsak wanted to know the dates for voter
registration and if we had any plans to actively
recruit new voters
Glenda Armstrong questioned what we would do about
ownership for the new registrations at the October
meeting and she asked for a special meeting on
September 22, 2008 to follow up on the newly
registered voters.
Ellen Cooke made a motion to call a special meeting
on September 22, 2008 and Cortez White seconded the
motion. The motion passed with 10 yes votes and 7
nays. The meeting will be held at 7:00 at
headquarters.
Correspondence: Eileen Coladarci sent a thank
you for the support she received after her recent
surgery.
New Business: Election 2008, much help will be
needed. You are welcome at headquarters any evening
regardless of your ward night assignment. Glenda
Armstrong wondered about the lack of Obama
literature at headquarters. Chairman DaSilva said
that State Central is trying to buy some material
for Connecticut but so far nothing significant is
available. Kevin Morgan also wanted Obama material
for our headquarters.
Treasurer: Linda DaSilva reported that as of
9/08/08 we had a balance of $6772.07. The net
profit from the clambake was $3415.61. The question
was asked if some of the treasury money could be
used to purchase Obama signs and literature. Linda
cautioned the use of funds due to the expenses
facing us for the up coming election. Jim Maloney
offered $500.00 to purchase what Obama materials
would could.
Bernie Gallo made a motion to accept the treasures
report and Ellen Cooke seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously.
State Central: Jim Maloney told the Town
Committee that he attended a steering committee
meeting for Sen. Chris Dodd for 2010. He said that
all campaigns are “linked”. There will be tiered
fundraising in Danbury, some geared to high dollars
and others geared more to the masses. Everyone can
be involved in fundraising. Jim also said that both
parties will get an initial bounce from the
convention and then we all need to focus on winning
the election. He feels that the election will be
tough and he feels Colorado is a state to watch, it
is a “swing state of swing states”
Kevin Morgan asked Jim what he thought of forcing
Joe Lieberman out of the Democratic Party. Jim said
it is a risk he has taken.
State Officials: Bob Godfrey thanked Jason
Bartlett for his work with the candidates. He urged
everyone to do what he or she could to support the
candidates in the upcoming election.
Local Officials: Marge Gallo reminded everyone
that City Hall was now on a 4-day workweek and would
be closed on Fridays. The hours are 7:30 A.M. to
6:30 P.M. She said October 28th is the
cut off for walk in registrations and her office
will be open from 9 A.M. till 8P.M. You could still
register if you move to Danbury after the 28th
or if you turn 18 after that date.
Ben
Chianese said that the Mayor was pushing the
shortened workweek and he felt that the general
population had no input.
Committees: No report.
Wards: No report.
Bobbie Anders made a motion to adjourn the meeting
and Linda DaSilva seconded. The meeting was
adjourned at 8:43 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
