The
Danbury Democratic Party is committed to the Danbury
Community and all its residents.
We
will work to establish a government that speaks
directly and honestly to its constituents.
Specifically a government that respects the Charter
of the City of Danbury and the principal that
government, its policies and actions should be
honest, transparent, and work for the benefit of all
the residents of the City. We believe in the
fundamental position that all residents should be
able to trust their government and be able to
actively participate without fear of retribution or
coercion.
As
a party, we pledge to promote equality under the law
and respect for all persons regardless of gender,
race, disability, ethnic or national origin, or
sexual orientation. We will strive to uphold
individual dignity and to recognize the value of
diversity while working to preserve and promote the
sense of community that unites us all in our
day-to-day struggles and successes. We will work to
heal divisions in or community and believe that
government works best when all the people of Danbury
are brought together.
We
support fair and balanced budgets and tax policy
that is fair to all our residents’ especially senior
citizens and veterans. We urge a quick,
responsible, and meaningful end to the conflict in
Iraq and pledge to do everything possible to support
our troops both at home and abroad.”

A Vibrant Economy with
Good Paying Jobs in which established businesses can
prosper, where small businesses and entrepreneurs
can get a strong start and are supported and
entry-level and skilled jobs can be readily found
and job retention is valued and achieved.
2.
Affordable, Universal
Health Care and Insurance for Children and Families
that provides easy and timely access to appropriate
providers throughout the State and high quality care
for all individuals within Danbury area.
3.
A Comprehensive Traffic
and Transportation Policy that offers infrastructure
improvements that allow people who live and work in
Danbury to move efficiently throughout the city.
4.
Quality entry level
housing that maintains the unique character of our
city, where everyone, including seniors, families
with lower incomes, and young adults can afford to
live and prosper.
5.
A comprehensive plan
for growth that controls development to protect
existing neighborhoods, recognizes that high density
housings not appropriate for all neighborhoods.
This plan directs commercial development to
neighborhoods and areas that have the infrastructure
to support it, and that rejects the use of tax
abatements for developers of housing developments.
6.
Educational excellence
promoting more state funding to provide all children
with a quality public education including state and
city funded universal pre-kindergarten that will
allow children to flourish and choose rewarding
courses of collegiate and vocational education to
build a comprehensive workforce and a stronger City
and State.
7.
A safe and secure city
that protects all residents of Danbury while
honoring our most cherished rights and
responsibilities as citizens, and respects and meets
the needs of our first responders and public safety
professionals.
8.
Government officials
who are guided by ethics and honesty who are
committed to the highest standards of openness,
fairness, integrity and justice.
9.
Taxation that reflects
fairness and that ensures every individual and
business taxpayer contributes a fair share, and in
which no taxpayers, including property taxpayers,
are unduly burdened and which recognizes the
hardships the current tax structure can place on
senior citizens.
10.
A healthy, attractive,
and sustainable environment which respects our need
to protect and prepare existing and future open
spaces such as Tarrywile Park, Bear Mountain Park,
Candlewood Lake, and which rejects the encroachment
of residential development into existing open space
areas.
11.
A comprehensive
economic development program that emphasizes the
development of businesses that create good jobs and
sustain the economy and which acknowledges that
economic development can only be accomplished in
connection with a comprehensive plan for controlling
residential growth and for protecting the
environment.
12.
A commitment to
revitalizing downtown Danbury and City Center, which
honors its role as the head of the city and
recognizes that sustainable redevelopment neither
requires, nor warrants, the granting of tax
abatements to condominium developers.
