The Danbury Democratic Town Committee strongly condemns the mail piece sent to voters by Rachel Chaleski and the House Republican Caucus against Ken Gucker. It is typical, but not surprising of the unprofessional and unfounded personal attacks Danbury Republicans have used for years. Voters are sick and tired of it and will oust her from office!
In response to the childish mailer put out by the Chaleski campaign, Ken Gucker has this to say: “I’m proud of the strong bipartisan relationships I’ve cultivated to deliver meaningful results for my constituents. I believe my opponent would find greater success by focusing addressing the needs of the residents of the 138th District, rather than resorting to hateful political mailings.
The facts speak for themselves: As a legislator for Danbury, Ken Gucker provided thousands of hours of constituent service, provided support needed in unemployment and immediate relief during the pandemic, supported the second largest middle class tax cut in state history, and got $15 million in new state dollars while Rachel Cheleski sat on her hands watching her local Republican counterparts flat fund the Danbury school budget over multiple years.
Ken worked with state legislators on both sides of the aisle on supporting legislation to combat the opioid epidemic, provide needed resources to keep our lakes and waterways clean, supported Democratic and Republican legislators fighting the crumbling concrete foundations crisis in central and eastern Connecticut, while legislators on both sides of the aisle supported Ken’s efforts to fight hazardous illegal waste dumping and clustered housing overdevelopment. Ken has shown that he can build the relationships that can get things done.
We wish we could say the same for the “one issue” Rachel has put her entire effort in office around as a state legislator: an unpopular and clearly unworkable charter school proposal that no one in Danbury wanted in the first place. It’s sad but not surprising that Rachel decided that voters should take two out of context, unclear photos from social media and circulate them with a tacky, cheap shot that only serves to attack someone personally rather than debate the merits of the issues. Voters are facing issues of affordability, taxes, education funding, and preserving our quality of life. We need to have serious conversations about these issues from leaders who will spark conversation and bring actual bipartisan consensus. Ken Gucker has demonstrated he can do that and he will do so again when elected to the State House of Representatives.
The Danbury Democratic Town Committee calls on Rachel Chaleski to apologize for and retract her mail piece immediately.
